Lego my ...

The Lego cake is finished.  I want to do several more Lego cakes because I have found myself waking up thinking about a better way to do them the next time.  It is so strange how cakes can take over your thoughts!

Sixteen Candles

This weekend I had some GREAT cake orders.  I was excited to make a Christmas cake for Meridian Lanes Bowling Alley.  That was fun especially since Julie came over and hung out with me while I finished it.  Then I got to make some goodies for a friend from a LONG time ago!  It was so nice to see Sherrie after all these years.  If nothing else, my cakes are becoming an avenue for me to see friends I haven't seen in a while!  (Sherrie looked EXACTLY the same!)  Then I worked on the Sex & the City Sweet 16 cake for pretty Heather.  It was beautiful, classy and fun just like Heather.  It was fun to put together.  Pictures below.

The final cake of the weekend was a sculpted cake for a special 16 year old friend of my oldest daughter.  Her parents surprised her with a black VW Beetle so I made a cake to look like it.  FUN!  Every cake I create gives me the opportunity to learn more.  How great it is to learn!

PS. lets not forget about the 24 DOZEN Christmas cupcakes I made in the middle of all these cake orders.  I am excited to deliver those because then I get to see another friend I haven't seen in a long time!  What a great weekend!

It's the icing on the cake

This is by far my busiest weekend with Tiers of Joy.  I have a few birthday cakes, Christmas cakes, cake balls and cupcakes to finish.  (just a few cupcakes, LOL)  To top it off, it is the week of school Christmas parties so I decided to send cupcakes with the 3 youngest kids.  I iced 90 cupcakes tonight!  My hand was cramping towards the end.  But the surprise for my kids was well worth it.
I cant wait to post pictures of the cakes from this weekend.  Be watching for them!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Rock On!

I just finished Rilee's birthday cake.  Her party is a Rock Star theme.  Earlier today I made cupcake microphones!  FUN STUFF!  Then this evening I finished her cake.  I hope she loves it.  All she told me was she wanted purple!  Well, it is purple!  Rilee is a special girl with a special brother and some extra special parents.  I hope they enjoy the cake!  I made it with lots of love! ;)

Cakes for kids

Well I have another birthday cake complete.  I have one more birthday cake to work on this weekend.  I am excited to start it because I am making some really cute microphone cupcakes to go along with the main birthday cake.  Plus this next cake is for none other than Rock Star Rilee Smith!  Woot Woot!

I read an article today (I plan to post a link to it below) about local cake decorators who are baking cakes for Foster children.  Anyone who knows me, knows foster children hold a special place in my heart.  I think I am going to have to check into this program and see how Tiers of Joy Cakes can help bring a smile to a foster child on their birthday.  What do you think?

I will also post the most recent cake.  It is the wild cake for Peyton.  ;)

Milestone birthdays

This week was one of milestone birthdays.  On Wednesday I flew to Kansas City to surprise my sister in law for her 40th birthday.  Her daughter Caroline and I made her a three tier cake.  It tasted WONDERFUL and I am sure it was because Caroline was my apprentice. :)  My sister in law is a long time collector of Barbie.  It was only fitting her husband would throw her a wonderful party at a fabulous restaurant with some touches of Barbie thrown in.  You will see the cake Caroline and I made below.

Once I flew back home Friday, I started working on my next cake.  This cake is for a pretty little one year old.  Her Momma wanted her cake to be fun and spunky just like her!  I think it turned out perfect for the little princess.  Pictures below.

I am so happy to share in these two special birthdays.  Thank you for including me. ;)

Jersey and not the Real Housewives one

Well, the jersey cake is finished.  This is the first cake I have ever carved.  It was a learning curve.  It is far from perfect but it is ok for a first.  I hope no one looks at it too closely.
Lauren, just take a quick picture in front of it and then start carving it up!  ;)
I can't talk about my next cake project yet but you can bet when I can, I will be posting pictures and giving you the scoop.  After that one, I have one for a Princess' 1st birthday party and another for a baby shower the same day.  I might need to look into getting me some elves! :?)  My business cards are on order.  Look for one in your Christmas card.
A picture of the Jersey cake is below.

OS Who?

So I finished decorating my stadium cake for my Small Group OU/OSWho? social.  I like the cake pans from Williams Sonoma, etc but I must say they are really not to bake cakes in that you plan to ice.  The mold of the pan is designed to make the beauty of the cake so that you only need to drizzle a glaze or dust with powdered sugar.  Even so, I had to add SOME buttercream to my stadium cake.  I mean seriously, what is cake without the icing? :)
I was sitting here tonight and thinking about those I have been making cakes for so far.  Every person means something special to me.  My next two cakes are for phenomenal women.  One is a high school senior who has recently signed to play soccer at OBU and the other I have to keep a secret for another week or so.  I feel honored to create these cakes because these cakes help mark milestones in these ladies' lives.  How blessed am I that in a small way I can take part?

Welcome!

Well, here it is.  My first blog for Tiers of Joy.  After much encouragement from my family and friends, I am putting my love of baking out there for others.  I pray those of you who get to experience one of my cakes first hand will experience as much joy seeing and tasting it as I do creating it.  I would love to write more but I have a cake waiting for me in my kitchen.  Pictures soon. :)
